Sofia Kouvelaki, CEO of The HOME Project, highlights the current refugee children's emergency: “What we are seeing amounts to a children’s emergency of the kind that we haven’t witnessed in years”, she mentioned in Helena Smith’s recent article in The Guardian. Child arrivals doubled in 2024 due in part to a new trafficking route from Libya to Crete. On top of that, the lack of ‘safe zones’ is exposing lone minors to serious risks of exploitation and abuse.
