About us

The HOME Project (THP) is a nonprofit organization that cares for unaccompanied children whose families and lives are wrecked by war and persecution, empowering them to persevere and grow into active citizens. It was founded in response to the call made by President Obama to the private sector to help in addressing the refugee crisis in 2016 and it exists to bring these children to a safe haven and provides security, dignity and decent living conditions for the most vulnerable.

Role profile

The Chief Development Officer (CDO) will be a critical member of the executive team, responsible for leading the organization’s fundraising strategies and initiatives supported by marketing and communication activities. The CDO will also manage and nurture relationships with existing and potential donors. Working closely with the CEO and the Board of Directors, the CDO will support and enhance fundraising efforts ensuring that THP’s message and brand are effectively communicated.

This position perfectly suits an agile and motivated individual who is passionate about THP’s mission and possesses excellent communication and strategic thinking skills.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Works together with CEO, CFO, COO, CPU Chief and Head of Programs to create an effective strategic fundraising plan and monitor needed actions.
  • Emphasizes on building and cultivating networks and relationships to drive fundraising initiatives ensuring the development and perseverance of robust donor connections.
  • Contributes to the customization of proposals to align with the interests of the donors and constantly explores new fundraising opportunities, trends and techniques.
  • Develops and implements a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy that aligns with the organization’s mission and goals.
  • Develops campaigns to enhance THP’s visibility and brand recognition and ensures that all marketing and communication activities enhance the organization's image and reputation.
  • Prepares and manages the fundraising and marketing budget providing efficient use of resources.
  • Leads, manages and mentors the fundraising and communication team by empowering them to take ownership of their work and contribute to organizational success.
  • Provides regular updates and reports on fundraising activities and outcomes.
  • Analyzes the effectiveness of marketing campaigns using data to guide strategy and decision making.
  • Develops and implements a crisis management plan.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Business, or a relates field (a master’s degree will be considered a strong asset).
  • Proven experience of at least 5 years in fundraising, marketing or communications, including 3 in leadership and/ or management roles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Greek and English and ability to craft compelling narratives and present them to different audiences.
  • Proficiency in public speaking and presentation.
  • Excellent people management skills and ability to supervise multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge and experience in digital marketing and social media strategies.
  • Strong decision-making abilities organizational skills with an eye to detail.
  • High level of integrity, resilience and professionalism.
  • Working experience in a nonprofit environment will be considered an important additional asset.
